THE CNN/DES MOINES REGISTER IOWA DEM. PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE AIRS TONIGHT, 9:00PM ET ON CNN. Who would have thought that Bernie Sanders—who seemed “generally content to be a cause rather than a campaign” in 2016, said one reporter—would pull ahead of Warren, Biden and Buttigieg, gaining 5 percentage points in last Friday’s Des Moines Register/CNN poll of Iowa. Certainly, he leads in the “get real” department, stating, “When Trump says he is for the working people, he is a liar and a fraud… and we are going to expose that during the general election.”

With our president calling Biden “Sleepy Joe” and Warren “Pocahontas,” we’re left to wonder what Sander’s nickname might be. “Giant Slayer,” perhaps?

WE’VE GOT A BIRTHDAY BITCHUATION. Director Steven Soderbergh turns 56 today. And if watching his latest, “The Laundromat,” makes you think he’s gone all satirical and super-serious, check out his Twitter feed (@Bitchuation). It’s a riot (“Take that ISIS!”)… with the occasional feel good moment thrown in (at bottom)
