THE RHYTHM SECTION OPENS IN THEATERS. The movie’s title refers to the human heart and lungs… and fans of author Mark Burnell’s book hope the movie is just as heart-pounding. In it, Blake Lively stars as Stephanie Patrick, an ordinary woman on a path of self-destruction, who enters into a dark world to seek revenge after learning that the plane crashed that killed her family was no accident.

The book is the first in a series of four—and if the movie’s a hit, Lively could become that rarest of cinematic unicorns—the star of a female-led thriller series. Also starring Jude Law and Sterling K. Brown.

KESHA RELEASES HER NEW ALBUM “HIGH ROAD.” Featuring the singles , "My Own Dance," and “Resentment” (a collaboration with The Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson), this follow-up to 2017’s “Rainbow,” allowed the singer to reconnect to the “unrestrained joy and wildness that’s always been a part of me,” she says.

Kesha’s quirky brand of joy can be seen in the record’s album trailer, which intercuts what looks like vintage travelogue footage, with Kesha in a sit-down interview, explaining her next album. “I’ve seen the light: life is like driving across the country with your whole family, for 90 years,” she says, “because I think life is a vacation from where we go when we die.” For die-hard Kesha fans, the next vacation starts now.

“UNMASKED” PREMIERES AT THE PAPER MILL PLAYHOUSE. Broadway musical fans may have to cross the Hudson! It’s the only place to see the world-premiere of this behind-the-scenes look at composer, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s remarkable life and music. The show promises “new and sometimes unexpected interpretations of his best-loved songs and rediscovered gems.” And to those Broadway snobs who wouldn’t be caught dead at the Paper Mill, I say, “you’d be surprised!” I was, after seeing the now celebrated revival of Sondheim’s “Follies” there in 1998. Get a taste of the show here.

January 30–March 1, 2020. The Paper Mill Playhouse, 22 Brookside Drive, Millburn, NJ; 973.376.4343. Get tickets at papermill.org.
