LET’S TRULY HONOR MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. I’ve made it a habit of reading “Letter from Birmingham Jail” every MLK Day (white moderates could benefit from its timely messages). But this year I feel challenged to do more. The not-for-profit King Center advocates for MLK Day to be a “day on, not a day off”—reminding us of its namesake’s belief in the individual’s ability to effect real change. Happily, today’s new activism is proving him right.

THE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY & SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT STARTS TODAY. My efforts in cause-related marketing have shown me that “Corporate Social Responsibility” need not be an oxymoron. Ditto this 2-day event—which brings scientists, engineers, and academics to London to explore new models of sustainable business, the business-poverty connection, how to respond to globalization, and more.
